Today I shipped one of these little satin sleep mask numbers. I think they're great. While I've never had much of a problem sleeping in various light conditions, they do add an extra sense of "going to sleep now" to the occasion.
They are also versatile - you can use them for lots of things besides just sleeping. For example, I have found they work FAR BETTER than any other thing - book, headphones, etc for keeping chatty strangers on airplanes to themselves. As a result, I will no longer travel without one.
So really, the possibilities are endless - I am sure there are a myriad other applications you might think up to use your sleep mask. Happy sleeping, and no peeking!
